From a Food Stand to a Family Legacy
In 2001, Adrian and Gloria Estrada started selling food on the streets of Los Angeles. They had no storefront, just a small food stand and a dream—to bring the flavors of Guadalajara, Jalisco, to the community. They knew they had something special, and their customers knew it too. Their little stand grew into something bigger than they ever imagined. They partnered up in business with their daughter Cindy Estrada, and Pika Tortas Ahogadas was created.
Bringing Guadalajara to California
One dish put us on the map: the torta ahogada. This classic sandwich, filled with carnitas and dipped in spicy or mild sauce, is a signature dish of our hometown. Back then, you couldn’t find it easily in the U.S. We wanted to change that. We took pride in being among the first to introduce this dish to American diners, giving people from Jalisco a taste of home and sharing it with new generations.
Growing with Our Customers
As more customers came, we needed more space. In 2004, we upgraded to a catering truck. By 2007, we opened our first restaurant in Los Angeles. In 2010, our daughter Cindy joined the business, and we opened a second location in Huntington Park called Pika Tortas Ahogadas. It is bigger, better, and ready for our growing community.
A Restaurant for Everyone
At first, most of our customers were from Jalisco, but as time went on, more people discovered our food. We wanted a space where everyone felt welcome, so in 2012, we opened Pika Tortas Ahogadas in Paramount, CA. This restaurant blends tradition with a fresh, modern touch. We make our food fresh daily using high-quality ingredients. Our menu stays true to our roots while being easy to enjoy for all. 2
